UI/UX – Why Are They Important in Today’s Business

In today’s fast-paced and ever-changing environment, your business priorities most likely sound similar to this: 1) generate new revenue streams, 2) enhance brand identity, and 3) increase customer engagement.

These goals are increasingly being accomplished through a digital web or mobile app designed to make it easy for your customer to engage with you. When it comes to crunching the numbers on the effectiveness of a digital product, however, there is arguably nothing more important than making sure your users have an excellent user experience.

Some things don’t change. A picture can speak a thousand words. The right tune can move the soul. And, a well-developed user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) can make or break your product. Anything less than an awesome user experience leads to unhappy customers who won’t recommend your product to friends. That’s why it’s imperative to understand how to design a product that is efficient and easy to use. It needs to stand out from the crowd — “good enough” is no longer good enough!

User Experience (UX)

An excellent user experience means your digital product is easy and intuitive. It’s also fun, unique and inviting. When your customers use your product, you want them to have the best experience possible so they continue using it and recommend your product to others. In addition, from a marketing perspective, good UX leads users to interact with you and provide feedback on how to improve your product.

Year after year, research shows that companies with a determined focus on user experience perform better financially. They experience higher revenues due to better retention, less price sensitivity, greater wallet share and positive word-of-mouth. In turn they lower expenses with reduced acquisition costs, fewer complaints, and fewer customer service requirements. That’s why we focus on UI/UX from the very start of planning your product.

So, how to accomplish a great user experience? Well, it comes down to the basics: Understanding why your customers would use your product and what specifically they want to do. If you can make this as easy as possible for them, you’re half-way there. When you release it to your initial testers, ask for feedback that will validate whether you have made accurate assumptions. Be careful not to overwhelm them with options they don’t need or won’t use. Ask them if your app’s features and navigation are laid out in an intuitive way. Let’s review what UI, is and how it plays into UX.

User Interface (UI)

We might not like to admit it, but people do judge a book by its cover. So, it’s a natural consequence that a well-executed design can sell a product before it’s built. Here’s what I mean: hallmarks of good UI are a consistent theme from screen to screen, which includes graphics and animations, uniform layout, and ease of use. Consistency on every screen builds credibility and keeps users from getting confused. You want them to be happy, keep using your product, and, telling others about it.

The UI, alone, increases app sales and, in the long run, reduces your company’s customer support costs. CreativeIyke focus on creating a UI that is both visually captivating and easy to use. While it is important to have the UI/UX in mind from the very outset of planning your app, we know that this can be like putting the cart before the horse. You first need to understand what needs to happen in the background to accomplish your objective, and that insight will help clarify how best to design your navigation for simplicity and efficiency. Then, we test using a minimum viable product or the “bare bones” version of your product.

The MVP (Minimum Viable Product) is typically deployed to a small group of customers, such as early adopters, who are typically more forgiving, more likely to give feedback, and able to grasp a product’s potential from an initial release. The MVP is a strategy to avoid building features that customers don’t value and seeks to maximize the information learned about the customer per dollar spent.

It’s in our Discovery Sessions that we break down and detail the functionality of the app, which then identifies what has to happen behind the scenes when a user presses a button. These factors then help us understand what the user interface needs to display to the user and tells us what we, as your product development team, need to do to make the user experience all it should be.
